xtUML provides two different approaches to interface modeled software with existing/realized/legacy software: External Entities and Realized Components. There is documentation in the help about each as well as a whole module (Module 18 – Realized Code Integration) in the Modeling with xtUML online course on this website (https://xtuml.org/learn/on-line-courses/).
Lee made a great suggestion to start by picking a small piece of new functionality to model. Your model of new functionality can be implemented in xtUML and include a modeled interface to the key points of interaction with legacy code.
