In my recent modeling, I’ve discovered that creating a temporary package is a great mechanism for having “whiteboard space” that can be copied to and from the actual model in progress. While not quite as efficient as an actual whiteboard, the copy factor is very beneficial, especially if the temporary model gets large.
The use case at hand was a workspace without a whiteboard handy, and a lot of uncertainty. (I know, “not an option!”) The temporary model allowed me to get away from the parts of the model not under consideration and focus more tightly on the specific problem. I realized a big productivity saving (0.5 – 1 man day estimated).
This might fall under the obvious category, but just in case…
