In this nice presentation by SAAB AB (http://www.modprod.liu.se/MODPROD2011/1.252946/modprod2011-day2-talk5b-Mikael-Lovkvist-xtUMLinpractice.pdf), Mikael refers to “Different Model Oriented Ways” and goes on to describing “Sketches”, “Blueprints” and “Executable Models”. This is a really helpful description of the different values that come from graphical UML modeling. (Also, there is much more good stuff in this preso; check it out.)
I remember Stephen Mellor giving a presentation on “3 Ways to Use UML” at an Embedded Systems Conference years ago. But I think the quote goes back even further. And I am trying to remember the origin.
Can someone link me to earlier usage of “3 Ways to Use UML” … or even better, link to the original use of this phrase?
Thanks!

Martin Fowler also has claims to it http://martinfowler.com/bliki/UmlMode.html
